Shoshone Shiver

Better late than never I always say. As usual, most of my adventures happen during nap time for my kids. To be honest, this year I waited until thermometer at the house broke double digits. I figured I could modify a cold weather boating strategy that my brother calls "the Marlow Run" and do a little bi-athelon in the process. So I packed up "KeeLani" my hippy Hawain sweetie, Remix 79, a pair of Approach skis, and headed to Grizzly.

When I got there expecting the usual stand around fest at the take out with Hobie in the lead all I saw were some of my students. Warmed the cockles of my heart to see them there. Fred, Jake, and Joan were all working on getting out of their gear which had an impressive layer of Ice.

So Marlow Long's mom is some kind of exercise specialist and told him when he was young that if he got his circulation going by taking a run before paddling on a cold day then he would not get cold. Well Marlow told Shane about it and the kids started running before each cold day on the river and calling it the "Marlow Run."

Well I set out for my "Marlow Ski" along the bike path on I-70. I probably could have walked it but it was nice to make things more complicated. You will also notice the Sorels that never came off my feet from the time I left home until I returned.

Oh Keelani the love of my life.

The water was the consistency of a Slurpee.

I only saw this nice couple R-2ing. They had a great line down Tombstone, while I was fumbling with my camera.

Some channels were totally frozen over.

The sun broke out and it was actually a nice ski accept where the trail went under the road and I had to take off my skis.

The other nice thing about sking was that it gave me excuse to Paddle my beloved Keelani. She kept me high and dry and the skis(130 cm Karhu Metas) and poles fit in the back.

The paddle was short, sweet, and Toasty. All in all another naptime adventure success.
